The Gregarius Ride to Google Free – Update

As my regular readers know, I am on the verge of being GoogleFree. I’ve stopped using google the search page, picasa, blogspot, googlemaps*, docs, gcalendar, G+ and of course GReader. With regards to GReader I switched to Bloglines as a temp move with an understanding that Netvibes is now watching me. At the time splitting my info helped by no one company having all my online activity. Well that is no longer an issue for as of today, I am a Gregarius users. Huh? Let me explain.

I did some looking around on my web hosting page and found they had a number of one-click install software packages for RSS readers. Since I’m on school vacation I had the time to properly demo them all and finally settled on Gregarius. As advertised it was just a simple click of the install button and voila my own webbased RSS reader on my site. I then imported my OPML file from Bloglines which worked perfectly. This move also gave me a chance to re-org a bit and to delete some seldom read feeds. But the best part of all, I now control my own RSS reader which can be accessed from any Tubes connected PC.

Next up, migrating from Flickr. I’ll post as things progress.

*I’ll admit that sometimes Mapquest’s lack of street view forces me to use GoogleMaps. But I can count the number of times I’ve used it on one hand.
